Mohamed Aboudrar, a member of the Guelmim-Oued Noun Regional Council from the opposition team, called for the need to advocate for the establishment of a land crossing in the Mahbes area at the border with Mauritania. He emphasized that this project will positively contribute to enhancing economic development in the region, especially with the presence of a port in Sidi Ifni, which will allow for the creation of trade routes that boost economic activity. He also stressed the importance of this proposal, noting that it would not face the issues experienced at the Guerguerat crossing, making it a key demand for the residents of Assa-Zag.

On the other hand, researchers expressed the significance of this crossing in strengthening economic relations between Morocco and Mauritania, as it will facilitate trade exchanges and enhance security in the region, which faces multiple challenges. They pointed out that the Mahbes area has ready infrastructure, increasing the feasibility of the project. Moreover, Moroccan investors hope to take advantage of the Mauritanian market in various fields, making the area a launching point toward the African continent.
