Education in the Municipality of Elmahbes

In the heart of the Moroccan desert, education in the Mahbes community represents a significant challenge, but it also holds hope for building an aware and educated generation capable of keeping up with progress and the challenges of the modern era.

The Mahbes community has one subsidiary school under the Ibn Al-Oqul school group in the city of Zag. This branch school includes a mixed class that was relocated from the Mahbes center to the Bir 06 village, which is about 6 kilometers away from the community. Due to the distance between the villages and the educational institution, children face difficulties in accessing the school, leading to a low enrollment rate and high illiteracy rates. The illiteracy rate in Mahbes is about 38.6%, with a higher rate among females compared to males.

Distance: The school's location, far from many areas and villages, complicates access, discouraging children from regularly attending school.
Lack of Resources: The school lacks modern educational tools and equipment, which are essential for providing quality education.
Living Conditions: Many families in Mahbes rely on herding and mobility, making it difficult for children to remain stable in their education.

Despite these challenges, the Mahbes community looks forward to developing the education sector through future plans aimed at:

1- Establishing additional schools in areas closer to the villages to facilitate children's access to educational institutions.
2- Improving the quality of education by providing modern resources and educational tools, such as books and teaching materials.
3- Encouraging girls' education through community awareness campaigns to support girls' education and reduce the illiteracy rate among them.

The Mahbes community, in collaboration with local and regional partners, is implementing educational initiatives that include:

- School enrollment support programs for children in remote areas, such as providing school transport.
- Organizing adult literacy courses to enhance knowledge and engage all community members in improving their living conditions.
- Encouraging community participation to support education by involving families and the community in promoting the educational process and developing a supportive learning environment.

In the Mahbes community, education represents a window of hope and progress. Despite the challenges, the desire for learning and knowledge remains strong among the community's youth, reinforcing the belief that investing in education is the best path to building a more developed and sustainable society.
